Dr. Kuntal Sen, MD, is the co-director of the Neurogenetics Clinic at Children's National Hospital, specializing in mitochondrial and neurometabolic disorders. He earned his medical degree from Grant Government Medical College, Mumbai and completed a pediatrics-medical genetics and genomics residency at Detroit Medical Center/Wayne State University. He also completed a child neurology fellowship at Children’s National and volunteered at the National Institutes of Health's Undiagnosed Diseases Program.Dr. Sen has dual training in neurology and clinical genetics, giving him unique expertise in diagnosing and managing complex monogenic neurological disorders. His clinical focus includes mitochondrial diseases and rare neuro-metabolic disorders. His research explores multi-modal neuroimaging and neuromonitoring in inborn errors of metabolism.He has published extensively, presented at international conferences, and led a national survey to improve child neurologists' understanding of genomic testing, culminating in a national curriculum released by the Child Neurology Society. Dr. Sen was elected chair of the Neurogenetics Section of the American Academy of Neurology and serves as a fellow of the American College of Medical Genetics (ACMG). He is also the media editor for the Pediatric Neurology Journal and has received numerous awards, including the ACMG Foundation/Perkin Elmer Award and Children’s National Founders Auxiliary Board Grant.
