Dr. Daniel Leung is a tenured Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition at Baylor College of Medicine and Director of Hepatology and Liver Transplant at Texas Children’s Hospital—the largest pediatric transplant program in the U.S. A leading clinician-scientist in pediatric hepatology, his work focuses on chronic fibroinflammatory liver disorders such as cholestatic diseases, viral hepatitis, and cystic fibrosis liver disease (CFLD). Dr. Leung has led NIH-funded translational studies on fibrosis and biomarkers through the Childhood Liver Disease Research Network and the CF Liver Disease Network, defining abnormal ultrasound patterns and clinical risk factors in children with CF. He has contributed to national guidelines as part of the AASLD’s Non-Invasive Assessment of Liver Disease Writing Group. More recently, through collaborations with the Urea Cycle Disorders Consortium, he has contributed to important work, identifying unexpectedly high burden of liver disease in UCD’s and increased rates of hepatic fibrosis, particularly in argininosuccinate lyase deficiency. Dr. Leung is honored to share his expertise and engage with peers at the 2025 SIMD Annual Meeting.
