Full Name
Heather Flanagan-Steet, PhD
Institution/Organization
JC Self Research Institute, Greenwood Genetic Center
Bio
Dr. Flanagan-Steet is a developmental biologist whose research efforts center on defining the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying pathogenesis of rare genetic diseases. This has included several lysosomal storage disorders (LSDs) and congenital disorders of glycosylation (CDGs). She earned her PhD from the University of Colorado Boulder and completed post-doctoral training with Dr. Joshua Sanes in the Department of Neuroscience at Washington University. Dr. Flanagan-Steet primarily uses zebrafish models to investigate gene function and disease pathogenesis. In 2018 Dr. Flanagan-Steet accepted the position of Associate Director of Research at the Greenwood Genetic Center, where she now works closely with the Center’s Clinical and Diagnostic teams to advance our understanding of a diverse array of rare diseases.
