Dr. Cristel Chapel-Crespo is a medical geneticist specializing in inherited metabolic disorders. She is an Assistant Professor at the University of Puerto Rico and is affiliated with the University of California, Irvine, as a volunteer clinical faculty member.Her clinical work centers on newborn screening and telemedicine applications in metabolic care.Dr. Chapel-Crespo earned her medical degree from the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine, completed her training in Medical Genetics at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, and completed her Medical Biochemical Genetics fellowship through the UCLA Intercampus Program.She serves as an advisor for the Puerto Rico Newborn Screening Program, contributing to the development and expansion of diagnostic and follow-up protocols for rare metabolic diseases.Dr. Chapel-Crespo maintains an active role in clinical practice both locally and nationally as a consultant for VMP Genetics and as a virtual metabolic provider at CHOC Children’s Hospital, expanding access to specialized metabolic care through telemedicine.
