Gustavo JC Borrajo, PhD.Dr. Borrajo graduated as a biochemist from the National University of La Plata in 1988 and completed his doctoral thesis entitled “Newborn Screening (NBS) for Congenital Diseases”. In 1991, he created the NBS Laboratory at the Fundación Bioquímica Argentina, where he has been director ever since. In 1995, together with other colleagues, he launched the first organized NBS program in Argentina. In 2000, he created the External Quality Assurance Program for NBS at the Fundación Bioquímica Argentina, aimed at Latin American countries, and has been its chief ever since. He has also been involved in teaching as a professor at the National University of La Plata, giving lectures at national and international conferences, teaching courses, advising different NBS teams in Latin America, and participating as a member of dozens of scientific committees. In 2015, he was awarded the Robert Guthrie Award by the International Society for Neonatal Screening. He is currently a member of the Task Force on Global NBS from the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry, and a member of the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Neonatal Screening. Dr. Borrajo is the author of numerous publications in renowned scientific journals and book chapters.
