Phillip L. Pearl, M.D. is Director of Epilepsy and Clinical Neurophysiology and the William G. Lennox Chair, Department of Neurology, Boston Children's Hospital and Professor of Neurology, Harvard Medical School. Dr. Pearl is Past President of the Child Neurology Society and the Professors and Educators of Child Neurology. Dr. Pearl has over 275 peer reviewed publications, over 100 chapters and reviews, and has written or edited six books, one translated into Chinese and one into Japanese. He is Co-Editor in Chief of the 2025 Seventh Edition of Swaiman's Pediatric Neurology. His book, Inherited Metabolic Epilepsies, is in the second edition and he has been studying neurotransmitter disorders over two decades, with emphasis on disorders of GABA metabolism, especially succinic semialdehyde dehydrogenase deficiency (SSADHD). He is the Principal Investigator on the NICHD supported natural history study of SSADHD and has collaborated with colleagues to define the disorder's natural history, diagnostic features, pathophysiology, consensus statement, and development of targeted gene therapy currently in preclinical testing.
